What happened
The National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir has urged INDIA bloc leaders and regional political actors to join a July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The protest will coincide with the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and will focus on the demand for statehood and constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a counter-set of protests in Jammu and Kashmir on the same day. Its focus will be employment, with party leaders alleging corruption, backdoor recruitment, and misleading public claims on statehood.
Political positions stated in the mobilisation
National Conference leader Tanvir Sadiq urged parties to avoid petty politics and stand united for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said National Conference president Farooq Abdullah had called on political actors to rise above party lines.
The National Conference also sought support from Mehbooba Mufti of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sat Sharma, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and other regional parties.
