What happened: 29 FDI projects totalling ₹4,895.65 crore under the revised framework

The Government of India received 29 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects worth ₹4,895.65 crore under a revised FDI framework. The revised framework permits firms with up to 10% Chinese ownership to invest via the automatic route.

FDI proposals were reported to have been filed by entities based in Mauritius, United States, Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Luxembourg, and Cayman Islands.

Covered sectors under the revised framework include information technology, artificial intelligence, information and communication, manufacturing, transport, pharmaceuticals, and data centres.

Background and earlier position: how the automatic route works in FDI

India’s FDI framework commonly distinguishes between the automatic route (eligible investments proceed without a case-by-case prior approval decision) and an approval-based route (investments face additional screening before proceeding).
