What happened in Tamil Nadu’s Assembly on Lok Sabha delimitation
Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna told the Tamil Nadu Assembly that Tamil Nadu has not changed its position on Lok Sabha seat delimitation. Arjuna’s stated demand is to freeze the number of Lok Sabha seats at 543, a stance Arjuna links to earlier demands associated with former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Arjuna also clarified remarks attributed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay connected to deliberations at the Southern Zonal Council meeting held in Mamallapuram. DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin disputed whether the Chief Minister’s speech clearly supported a “freeze” approach.
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s reported position includes two parts: a wording dispute and a substantive representation claim for Tamil Nadu. Stalin stated that a resolution passed on 12 August supports keeping the “freeze” approach and also disputed whether “freeze” was clearly mentioned in the Chief Minister’s speech.
