The Netherlands women’s cricket team has qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time. Coach Neil MacRae says the result came after two years of sustained work by players and support staff despite limited funding, poor training facilities, and restricted access to cricket.
MacRae says the Netherlands were well below the required level at the 2024 Global Qualifier in Abu Dhabi, but the team improved through hard work on batting, bowling, and especially fielding. He describes the squad as a largely home-grown associate-nation side.
MacRae contrasts this with the Netherlands men’s squad at the 2023 ODI World Cup, where more overseas players were available. The women’s team had to build from a narrower talent base and with fewer structural advantages.
