An Iranian Kurdish armed opposition party said nine of its members were killed in drone and rocket strikes near Sulaimaniyah in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The party blamed Iran for the attack. A separate report said the U.S.-led anti-jihadist coalition shot down several drones in Erbil.
The incident matters because northern Iraq remains a space where regional rivalries, armed non-state actors, and external military actors intersect. The use of drones and rockets shows how cross-border conflict can spill into neighbouring territory and complicate local security control.
