What happened in the Rajya Sabha
The Rajya Sabha passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 after the Lok Sabha had already passed the Bill. Opposition members under the INDIA alliance walked out before the Minister’s reply.
Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension Jitendra Singh replied during the debate and challenged Opposition claims about alleged examination-paper leaks. Jitendra Singh stated that Opposition figures could not be authenticated and said the government was working to address malpractice connected with management quota in education.
Jitendra Singh also referred to education-capacity steps as part of the government’s approach, including an increase in AIIMS seats and expansion of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a Supreme Court-monitored, high-powered committee probe into NEET paper leaks. Kharge also demanded police action against protesters. Kharge further sought Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation, arguing that Amit Shah did not respond despite unrest.
Kharge criticised the Bill as delayed and ineffective in preventing paper leaks. DMK did not walk out with the INDIA alliance; DMK moved amendments and the DMK amendments were defeated.
