What happened

The Delhi government stated that it will not take further adverse action against individuals arrested in connection with protests against the NEET question paper leak. The Delhi government’s Home Department signalled that any persons already arrested or detained would be reviewed and released “expeditiously.” The Delhi government also stated that the matter would be treated as closed without further proceedings related to the NEET question paper leak protest for the protected category.

Exceptions and conditions

Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood clarified the limits of the relief. The protection would not apply to people with criminal antecedents. Ashish Sood also indicated that persons who indulged in violence, vandalism, or other unlawful acts would face action under the law.

Public response

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) welcomed the Delhi government notification but argued that cases should be formally withdrawn rather than merely treated as closed. CJP also warned that any dilution of assurances given after the Centre’s earlier communication could push students back onto the streets.
