What happened: Assam requested Central support after Upper Assam floods
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Assam Government asked the Union Government for a dedicated Central support package for people affected by an unprecedented flood in Upper Assam.
Assam submitted the request to the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) after the IMCT conducted a multi-day assessment of flood-devastated districts.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam is seeking recognition of the Upper Assam flood as an atypical, high-intensity, rapid-onset event.
Assam requested flexible norms for damage assessment and assistance delivery.
Assam requested Central support covering relief, housing, restoration of infrastructure, and livelihood-related measures for Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat.
