What happened: Assam Chief Minister’s Independence Day outline on flood rehabilitation
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma used his 80th Independence Day message to outline flood rehabilitation priorities for flood-affected families and flood-hit areas in Assam. He emphasised rebuilding infrastructure, restoring livelihoods, and building a more flood-resilient Assam through stronger infrastructure, reliable early-warning forecasts, and resilient livelihoods.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Assam government is preparing a comprehensive rehabilitation plan. He also stated that rapid digital assessment of flood damage would enable faster rehabilitation and reconstruction.
In the same message, Himanta Biswa Sarma linked rehabilitation needs to a financial estimate, stating that rebuilding flood-hit areas would require at least ₹1,000 crore.
