The Supreme Court has said that easy access to pornographic content on the internet, particularly by minors, raises a matter of paramount public importance. The Court treated the petition filed by advocate B. L. Jain as a representation and asked that the Union government consider the issue.

A three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant flagged the concern that obscene material is available at the click of a button. The Bench also said excessive exposure to pornography can contribute to addiction and psychological distress.
