UN climate chief Simon Stiell said India’s answer to the technical and financial challenges of the energy transition lies in decarbonisation and electrification. His remarks place India’s climate strategy within the wider global shift away from fossil-fuel dependence and toward cleaner, more efficient energy systems.
After meetings with Indian ministers and business leaders, Simon Stiell said the main technical challenges are around grids and storage. He said the main financial challenge is mobilising climate finance, including finance for adaptation. He also said international cooperation can help solve common technical problems and that electrification is central to the broader global energy agenda.
