What happened: drinking-water-only use of Krishna basin storage

A three-member committee of the Krishna River Management Board decided that water available in the Krishna basin joint storage facilities Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar should be shared only for drinking water needs of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and not for irrigation.

The Krishna River Management Board committee did not determine the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana sharing ratio in the same meeting. The committee scheduled another meeting on September 4 to determine the sharing ratio needed to cover drinking water needs until June–July.

The meeting was attended by Satish Kamboj (river board member-secretary and committee chairman) and engineers-in-chief O. V. Ramesh Babu (Telangana) and K. Narasimha Murthy (Andhra Pradesh).
