What happened (allegations by Devendra Nath Mahto)
Devendra Nath Mahto, leader of Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, alleged assault by Ranchi police during the 80th Independence Day period in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Mahto alleged that Ranchi police stopped him when he attempted to participate in a Tiranga Yatra organised by protesting students.
Devendra Nath Mahto said he was receiving treatment at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. Mahto alleged that police did not allow him to leave his hospital room, and an altercation occurred between Mahto and police personnel. Mahto claimed injury to his chest from being stopped and jostled.
Devendra Nath Mahto alleged that Ranchi police assaulted and beat up his associates who came to his aid. Mahto stated that he shared footage of the incident on social media and later sat on dharna outside his hospital room, refusing to leave until permission was granted and his treatment-related issues were addressed.
