Amount of old age pension released by Punjab government
Punjab has released old-age pension assistance to senior citizens in the current financial year.

- Punjab has released pension assistance under its old-age pension scheme in the current financial year.
- The scheme is supporting senior citizens in Punjab through State welfare assistance.
Punjab’s old-age pension scheme has entered the current financial year with large-scale welfare disbursal. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur said the State has released ₹1,423.33 crore so far, and about 23.77 lakh senior citizens are receiving support.
Why the issue matters
Old-age pensions are a core social justice measure because they provide income support to elderly citizens with limited or no regular earnings. For UPSC, the subject links welfare delivery, fiscal capacity of State governments, and the administrative challenge of ensuring timely delivery to eligible beneficiaries.
UPSC can frame the Punjab old-age pension scheme as a question on welfare targeting, last-mile delivery, fiscal burden, and the role of State governments in social security for senior citizens.
