What happened
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment organised nationwide programmes under Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) to support dignity, security and well-being of senior citizens. The programmes focused on healthy ageing, social inclusion, legal awareness and inter-generational bonding to commemorate International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) 2025.
The Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Birla Open Minds Foundation for collaborative initiatives aimed at welfare and empowerment of senior citizens. The Ministry also virtually inaugurated five Senior Citizen Homes located in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, expanding institutional care and support infrastructure for elderly citizens.
