What happened: Congress opposition to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill
Congress announced that it will strongly oppose the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill during Parliament deliberations in the Monsoon Session.
Congress leaders said the government should not assume the Bill can be passed within the remaining Monsoon Session days.
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal said the Opposition will resist passage of the Bill.
K.C. Venugopal alleged that the proposed changes are aimed at minorities and NGOs.
K.C. Venugopal alleged that organisations associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) benefit from foreign-linked funding, and challenged the government to “control the RSS” rather than target lawfully operating NGOs (as stated by Congress).
