A three-member committee investigating the discovery of burnt currency notes at former judge Yashwant Varma’s official residence said Varma’s late withdrawal from the committee’s proceedings cannot end the statutory inquiry.
The committee’s findings were stated to have been submitted for Parliament even after Justice Varma resigned as a judge on April 9 with immediate effect.
The committee’s report was stated to be tabled in Parliament on Wednesday.
The committee’s reported conclusion was that charges against Justice Varma were “proved,” and that Justice Varma’s explanations were “evasive and unsatisfactory.”
Justice Varma informed the committee of his decision to withdraw on April 9, and the committee stated that parallel communications were sent to the President of India and the Chief Justice of India.
