According to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi visited the KVIC Centre for Rural Enterprise Acceleration through Technology (CREATE) during his visit to Leh, Ladakh. He observed the woollen Pashmina yarn production process and noted the role of the centre in supporting local artisans.
Why the CREATE model matters
The CREATE centre represents a development-oriented approach to the handicraft and handloom economy. The core idea is to combine traditional craftsmanship with technology so that artisans can improve productivity, quality, and market linkage while remaining within a rural livelihood framework.
For UPSC, the relevant themes are MSME-led employment generation, value addition in niche rural products, and self-reliant rural economy. The Ladakh setting also makes the issue relevant to mountain livelihoods and the economics of remote regions.
