What happened
The Ministry of Textiles says the Government of India is facilitating pilot projects across the country to build awareness and capacity on global best practices in sustainable production and consumption. The stated focus is on green technology adoption, recycling, and waste reduction in the textile sector.
The Ministry of Textiles also mentions a project titled “Eliminating Hazardous Chemicals from Textile Fashion Supply Chain”. The project is being implemented in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
UPSC may connect sustainable textile production with industrial pollution control, circular economy, climate-conscious manufacturing, and India’s access to global markets. The project with UNIDO and the Global Environment Facility can also be used to test awareness of international institutional partnerships in environmental and industrial policy.
