Why the topic matters for UPSC

The Indian Ocean Region is central to India’s maritime geography, trade routes, disaster response requirements, and security environment. A policy mix that combines connectivity, development support, HADR, and maritime security is relevant for GS2 and GS3 because it links foreign policy, regional stability, and infrastructure-led cooperation.
