What happened

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying said that the Government is supporting shrimp aquaculture through biosecurity, disease surveillance, diagnostics, dissemination of best management practices, and capacity building of fish farmers. The stated aim is to address rising input costs, disease outbreaks, and international market price fluctuations.

The Ministry said that the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD), implemented under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), carries out regular surveillance, early detection, reporting, and monitoring of aquatic animal diseases to support timely disease management and reduce production losses.
