What happened: 2024 National Minimum Standards and Protocol for Palna creches

Under the 2024 National Minimum Standards and Protocol, care service providers are required to follow government rules, laws, and regulations related to child protection and safety while setting up and running creches.

Background and earlier position: Palna scheme design and funding

The Anganwadi cum Creches (Palna) scheme was introduced with effect from 01 April 2022. Palna aims to provide day care crèche facilities in safe and secure environments for children aged 6 months to 6 years of all mothers, irrespective of their employment status.

The Palna scheme also includes nutritional support and services aimed at health and cognitive development, growth monitoring, immunization, and education for children in the 6 months to 6 years age group.
