What happened: virtual inauguration of “Sahakar Bhavan” headquarters

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah virtually inaugurated “Sahakar Bhavan”, the newly constructed headquarters of Jamnagar District Cooperative Bank, in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The Ministry of Cooperation stated that the headquarters is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is designed to meet the financial and institutional requirements of farmers, service cooperative societies, and dairy cooperative institutions in Jamnagar and Devbhumi Dwarka districts.

The inauguration programme included Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Cooperation Minister of Gujarat Jitubhai Vaghani, multiple Gujarat Cabinet Ministers, Member of Parliament from Jamnagar Poonamben Maadam, and other local representatives, along with bank leadership such as Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Ajaybhai Patel and Chairman of Jamnagar District Cooperative Bank Jitubhai Lal. The programme also included directors of the bank, district administration officials, chairpersons of Agricultural Produce Market Committees, district cooperative unions, office-bearers of Jamnagar Milk Union, representatives of cooperative urban banks, representatives of service cooperative societies, public representatives, and farmers.

Background and earlier position: cooperative banking institutions as district-level rural finance

The Jamnagar District Cooperative Bank began in 1969. According to the government release, the bank started with capital of ₹2.5 lakh and has expanded to more than ₹215 crore business over time.
