What happened (review outcomes announced by the Ministry)
The Ministry of Science and Technology conducted a review of the RDI (Research, Development and Innovation) framework and discussed two connected tracks: expanding what areas qualify as “strategic,” and improving coordination across departments and science institutions.
What happened on expanding the RDI strategic scope
During the review, the Ministry discussed proposals to widen the scope of strategic areas covered under the RDI framework. These proposals were discussed through consultations with Ministries and expert deliberations. The Ministry stated that the expansion is meant to cover areas of emerging strategic importance while staying within the RDI guidelines.
What happened on collaboration and information sharing
The review also covered measures to strengthen inter-departmental collaboration and information sharing across the science and technology ecosystem. The Ministry encouraged Secretaries and departments to maintain regular interaction, identify areas of mutual interest, and build greater synergy among scientific institutions and programmes. The Ministry further stated that periodic institutional interactions involving CSIR and other scientific organisations are being pursued to strengthen collaboration and avoid duplication.
