Meet to identify STI needs for sustainable development in Kargil under CSIR-NIScPR initiative
CSIR-NIScPR, IIT Delhi’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, IIT Jammu, and Government Degree College, Kargil held a one-day consultation on science, technology, and innovation needs for sustainable development in Kargil, Ladakh, on 15 July 2026.

What happened
A one-day meet titled “Science, Technology, and Innovation Need Identification for Sustainable Development of Kargil” was held on 15 July 2026 at Government Degree College, Kargil, Ladakh. The consultation was jointly organised by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan at IIT Delhi, IIT Jammu, and Government Degree College, Kargil.
The meet was part of the CSIR-NIScPR initiative “Leveraging CSIR Technologies for Rural Development: Expanding Initiatives and Identifying Opportunities”. According to the Ministry of Science & Technology release, the initiative aims to disseminate indigenous technologies developed by CSIR laboratories for rural development challenges across India.
UPSC can frame the Kargil consultation as an example of how indigenous technologies, institutional partnerships, and local need assessment support inclusive development in difficult terrain. The issue connects Science and Technology policy with agriculture, rural entrepreneurship, and climate adaptation in Ladakh.
