On June 19, 2026, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognizance of a report concerning illegal confinement of a minor boy in Kasna jail, Uttar Pradesh. This boy, arrested from Shahjahanpur district, was held as an adult inmate for over two months.
Despite the boy being granted bail, he remains in a juvenile home due to financial constraints preventing his family from furnishing the surety bond. The NHRC issued notices to local authorities for detailed reports on the matter.
