The NHRC, India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report about a tragic incident on July 2, 2026, where a massive granite rock fell on migrant labourers in a quarry in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
In this incident, 7 labourers lost their lives and 5 others sustained injuries, raising concerns regarding safety protocols and negligence by the quarry owner.
At the time of the incident, around 16 labourers were present at the site, and two stone crushers were operational nearby.
