Mizoram’s Natural History Museum notified as India’s 21st Designated Repository under Biological Diversity Act, 2002
Mizoram’s Natural History Museum designated as a bio-repository for biodiversity.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has designated the Natural History Museum (NHM), Mizoram University, Aizawl, as a Designated Repository under Section 39 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. The Central Government notified the institution as a Designated Repository on 19 June 2026, based on the recommendation of the National Biodiversity Authority.
NHM is now India’s 21st Designated Repository, reinforcing the country’s biodiversity conservation and scientific infrastructure. These repositories safeguard authenticated biological specimens accessed under the Biological Diversity Act.
Strengthens biodiversity conservation strategies at national and regional levels, supporting global biodiversity targets.
