The 3rd BRICS Transport Working Group (TWG) Meeting began in Nagpur on 9 July 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026. The meeting is relevant because it places transport policy, sustainability and connectivity within a major multilateral forum that now represents a large share of the world economy and population.
What happened
Senior officials from BRICS Member Countries are meeting over two days to discuss cooperation on sustainable transport infrastructure, clean mobility, logistics resilience and multimodal connectivity. The meeting is intended to strengthen institutional cooperation and address emerging global transport challenges.
India’s chairship priorities
In his remarks, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Shri V. Umashankar, said India’s BRICS Chairship theme is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. He linked the theme to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, describing it as a people-centric vision for practical partnerships.
