Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, addressed the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 virtually on 9 July 2026. He urged industry leaders to invest in Tripura and described the State as one of the Northeast’s most promising destinations for long-term growth.
Background and earlier position
The statement is part of the wider Union government narrative that the Act East Policy has shifted the Northeast from a frontier zone to a connectivity corridor. In policy terms, the region’s development has been linked to roads, bridges, border trade, inland and multimodal transport, and digital infrastructure rather than only to welfare spending.
Tripura has historically faced the constraints of being landlocked, with limited market access and heavy dependence on routes through neighbouring territories. The release positions ongoing connectivity projects as the mechanism to reduce that disadvantage and turn the State into a gateway to the Bay of Bengal and Southeast Asia.
