What happened

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment says the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) has reached more than 29.32 crore citizens. The ministry presents the campaign as a nationwide anti-drug initiative launched on 15 August 2020 under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).

The ministry also says treatment and rehabilitation services under NAPDDR have expanded through a network of 768 centres and facilities, and the ministry's Drug De-addiction Helpline 14446 continues to provide counselling, information, and referral support.

Background and earlier position

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan began in 272 vulnerable districts and was later expanded across the country, according to the ministry. The campaign combines awareness generation, community participation, treatment, rehabilitation, aftercare, and social reintegration.

The ministry says the campaign has reached more than 11.20 crore youth and 7.92 crore women. It also says more than 21 lakh awareness and sensitisation activities have been conducted in schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions.
