Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan reaches over 29.32 crore citizens; treatment services expanded under NAPDDR
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment reports wider reach, higher treatment uptake, and digital expansion under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction

- The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was launched on 15 August 2020 and began in 272 vulnerable districts before expanding across the country.
- Drug De-addiction Helpline 14446 provides counselling, information, and referral services for individuals and families affected by substance abuse.
- NMBA App 2.0 enables real-time reporting of awareness activities and supports States, districts, and partner organisations.
What happened
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment says the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) has reached more than 29.32 crore citizens. The ministry presents the campaign as a nationwide anti-drug initiative launched on 15 August 2020 under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).
The ministry also says treatment and rehabilitation services under NAPDDR have expanded through a network of 768 centres and facilities, and the ministry's Drug De-addiction Helpline 14446 continues to provide counselling, information, and referral support.
UPSC can use the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to test policy design, convergence among ministries and state agencies, and the balance between awareness-led prevention and treatment-led rehabilitation in tackling substance abuse.
