Background and earlier position

The UPSC angle · GS3

UPSC can ask which institution compiles the Index of Core Industries, which sectors form the basket, why base-year revision matters, and how industrial statistics affect policy assessment. In Mains, the revision can be used to discuss the quality of economic data, consistency across indices, and the importance of industrial output measurement for growth and planning.
