What happened
The Office of Economic Adviser (OEA), under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), will release the revised Index of Core Industries (ICI) series with base year 2022–23 on 20 July 2026 at 5:00 PM. The release will include the provisional ICI for June 2026 and a back series from April 2023 to May 2026, covering 38 months.
Background and earlier position
The existing ICI series uses base year 2011–12. The Index of Core Industries is compiled on a monthly basis and is used as a key indicator of activity in major industrial sectors.
For the revised series, the OEA has derived weights from the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) 2022–23 series released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The ICI basket weights drawn from the IIP have been redistributed on a pro-rata basis to total 100.
