The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will release an updated Index of Core Industries (ICI) on 20 July 2026. The revised index will use a new base year of 2022–23 and will recalibrate the basket of core industries and their weightings.

The update matters because the Index of Core Industries is a key high-frequency indicator of industrial activity in India. It helps track output in major infrastructure-linked sectors and is often read alongside the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

What is changing now

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the revised ICI series will replace the existing series with base year 2011–12. The July 20 release will include the provisional ICI for June 2026.

The ministry will also publish back series data from April 2023 to May 2026. That makes the new series usable for continuity, comparison, and trend analysis after the change in base year.
