What happened
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said it has put in place mechanisms for the timely collection and publication of official statistics. The ministry linked the improvement to digital survey systems, stronger field supervision, and a fixed release calendar for statistical products.
The announcement is relevant because official statistics feed policy design, inflation tracking, industrial assessment, and national income estimation. For UPSC, the key issue is not the press release itself, but the institutional capacity to produce reliable and timely data.
How the statistical system is being strengthened
For National Sample Surveys, the ministry said primary data collection now uses Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) and the e-SIGMA system. These platforms include validation checks, real-time data monitoring, artificial intelligence-enabled chatbots, and multilingual interfaces.
The ministry also said that physical scrutiny and inspection by higher-level officers continues under fixed norms, along with regular training for field staff. The stated objective is to improve consistency at the data-collection stage and reduce errors before publication.
