The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has extended a limited exemption window for some solar photovoltaic net-metering and open access renewable power projects from Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II compliance on solar PV cells. The exemption for these project categories will now continue until 31 December 2026. The Ministry has also stated that there will be no blanket extension of ALMM List-II for solar power projects.
The policy signals a controlled transition in solar procurement, not a broad relaxation. The Ministry’s stated intent is to protect investments already made by standalone solar PV module manufacturers, including inventory, while also allowing time for project developers to shift toward sourcing solar cells from manufacturers listed in ALMM List-II.
