What happened: IWTMA asks for export-linked wind turbine incentives and component support
The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) asked India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for an export-linked incentive scheme for wind turbine exports. IWTMA CEO Amit Pyasi also requested additional support for indigenous manufacture of flanges and large bearings, which are required by large forging facilities for larger turbine platforms.
IWTMA proposed multiple policy levers aimed at lowering export costs and improving cash flow, while also addressing upstream manufacturing gaps for turbine components. IWTMA also sought better international market access through trade negotiations, particularly referencing European Union Free Trade Agreement discussions.
Export-linked incentive idea and financing support
Amit Pyasi suggested an export incentive measured in rupees per megawatt (MW) for a period of five to seven years, with an alternative export-only turnover-linked structure. IWTMA also requested export financing support and domestic buyers’ credit facilities for buyers purchasing wind turbines manufactured in India.
