President Droupadi Murmu addressed the India–Moldova Business Forum in Chișinău on 20 July 2026 with Maia Sandu, President of Moldova. The forum is relevant for UPSC because it shows how India is combining diplomacy with business outreach, especially in sectors linked to digital technology, clean energy, and manufacturing.

India and Moldova established diplomatic relations in 1992. The address presented the relationship as one based on mutual respect, democratic values, peace, development, and international cooperation. For exam purposes, the episode fits the broader theme of India’s bilateral outreach to Europe through economic and technology partnerships.

What happened now

The President of India encouraged Indian businesses to explore opportunities in Moldova and invited Moldovan businesses to explore opportunities in India. The address also projected Moldova as a reform-oriented market with a strategic location and growing integration with European markets.

The forum identified several sectors for cooperation: digital technologies, artificial intelligence, cyber-security, fintech, digital public infrastructure, infrastructure development, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and healthcare.

Indian companies were described as interested in participating in Moldova’s renewable-energy projects, including solar energy, battery storage, smart grids, green hydrogen, and other clean technologies.
