What happened
Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 began at Southern Naval Command, Kochi, as a multinational maritime security training engagement hosted by the Indian Navy. The engagement is being conducted under Indian Navy-led Combined Task Force 154, in partnership with Combined Maritime Forces, and it is designed to improve professional readiness and interoperability among partner nations.
The engagement has brought together participants from 26 countries, along with facilitators and international organisations and subject matter experts. The Indian Navy is using its training infrastructure and simulators to support ship management, navigation, distress communication, damage control, and firefighting training.
Background and earlier position
Combined Maritime Forces is a multinational maritime partnership that works on maritime security, counter-piracy, and regional cooperation. Combined Task Force 154 is its dedicated training task force, and the Indian Navy currently commands it, which gives India a visible role in multinational maritime capacity building.
