What happened
Operation Southern Readiness 26-2, a four-day multinational maritime security training engagement, concluded at Southern Naval Command, Kochi on 23 July 2026. The Indian Navy conducted the engagement in partnership with Combined Maritime Forces under the aegis of Southern Naval Command and the Indian Navy-led Combined Task Force 154. The closing ceremony on 23 July 2026 included a closing address by Commander CTF 154 and presentations of certificates to facilitators.
What the engagement covered
Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 combined professional discussions, simulator-based instruction, and practical training modules. The training agenda covered maritime domain awareness and information sharing, maritime law, counter-narcotics, force protection measures, asymmetric threats, maritime uncrewed systems, and operational sea training.
Domain-specific inputs and facilitation included the Indian Navy’s Information Fusion Centre—Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) and Combined Maritime Forces elements such as the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC). Specialist international organisations contributed training inputs, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMO IMLI). Practical modules included damage control and firefighting, maritime communications, survival at sea, and boarding procedures, along with sea training onboard an Indian Naval ship.
