Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana under AVYAY: 49.81 lakh assistive devices distributed to BPL senior citizens
Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana under Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana has expanded assistive support for poor senior citizens, according to a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

What happened
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) has distributed physical assistive devices and living aids to eligible senior citizens under the broader Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY). The scheme is meant to support the welfare, dignity, and social security of senior citizens.
The ministry said that since inception, the scheme has reached senior citizens belonging to the Below Poverty Line category or having a monthly income up to ₹15,000.
UPSC may frame this as a social-justice and governance question on how the State supports senior citizens through targeted welfare schemes, how eligibility is defined for Below Poverty Line and low-income groups, and how assistive devices improve dignity and mobility while implementation and coverage remain policy concerns.
