The Union Government has said that the National Career Service (NCS) Portal is being used to expand re-employment opportunities for senior citizens. The issue matters for UPSC because India’s population is ageing, and older workers need pathways for income security, especially when formal pension coverage and organised-sector jobs are limited.

What the Government has said

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar informed the Rajya Sabha that the Government supports active ageing and employment facilitation for senior citizens through the NCS platform. The statement was made in response to a question from Rajya Sabha Member Shri Rajinder Gupta.

Background and earlier position

The NCS Portal was launched in 2015 as a digital employment platform. The portal connects job seekers with employers and is part of India’s broader effort to modernise employment services.

The Government has also approved 407 Model Career Centres (MCCs) in collaboration with States and institutions. These centres provide job fairs, career counselling, training, and access to vacancies through the NCS ecosystem.
