Rural housing under PMAY-G with a completed house, a sanitation unit, a water tap, and an electricity connection in a village setting
Key takeaways
  • The Ministry told Lok Sabha that PMAY-G progress data, fund release data, and tentative allocation data are available state-wise in annexures.
  • PMAY-G beneficiaries receive housing support along with toilet support, drinking water, electricity, LPG access, wage support, and women’s Self-Help Group linkage.
  • The Ministry cites evaluations by NIPFP, NIRD&PR, NITI Aayog, and IIM-A to support claims of improved living standards and reduced distress migration.

Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) remains a useful UPSC topic because it combines a major rural housing scheme with convergence across sanitation, drinking water, electricity, clean cooking, and livelihoods. A written reply in Lok Sabha has added fresh implementation data on houses sanctioned, completed, and under construction, along with central fund releases and reported social outcomes.

What the Lok Sabha reply said

The Ministry of Rural Development said state and Union Territory-wise details of houses sanctioned, completed, and under construction under PMAY-G for the last five years, from 2021-22 to 2025-26, are available in annexures. The reply also said cumulative progress as on 16.07.2026 is available separately, along with state-wise financial assistance released and tentative allocation for 2026-27.

The UPSC angle · GS2 · GS3

UPSC can ask how PMAY-G combines housing assistance with sanitation, drinking water, electricity, clean cooking, wage support, and women’s collective participation. The implementation side also offers questions on target allocation, fund release, monitoring, and outcome assessment in a major rural welfare scheme.
