What happened
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism states that tourism infrastructure for spiritual corridors in Kashi (Varanasi), Ayodhya and Mathura–Vrindavan is undertaken through tourism infrastructure projects sanctioned under multiple Ministry of Tourism schemes.
The Ministry of Tourism projects are sanctioned based on proposals from the respective State Governments and Union Territory Administrations, subject to scheme guidelines and fund availability.
The stated design direction integrates modern visitor amenities while preserving the cultural, architectural and heritage character of these spiritual destinations.
The Ministry also encourages States/Union Territory Administrations to incorporate sustainability components around heavily visited heritage sites, including waste and sewage management, public sanitation, water conservation, solar/energy-efficient lighting, and eco-friendly mobility.
