The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) consolidated nutrition-linked Anganwadi initiatives under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 (Mission Poshan 2.0). MoWCD launched Poshan Tracker, an ICT-based application for monitoring and tracking Anganwadi Centre services, Anganwadi Worker activities, and beneficiary nutrition indicators on defined measures, including dynamic identification of stunting, wasting, and under-weight among children under 5 years.

Background and earlier position

Nutrition delivery through the Anganwadi ecosystem previously operated alongside multiple components, including Anganwadi services, Poshan Abhiyaan, and the Scheme for Adolescent Girls (covering 14–18 years in Aspirational Districts and the North-Eastern region). Health-sector nutrition interventions under the National Health Mission continued through a life-cycle approach targeting children under 5 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescents.

What changed now

MoWCD placed Anganwadi services, Poshan Abhiyaan, and the Scheme for Adolescent Girls under the Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 umbrella. MoWCD described Mission Poshan 2.0 as a Centrally Sponsored mission implemented by States and Union Territories, and MoWCD stated an allocation of Rs. 21,960 crores for Financial Year 2025–26. MoWCD also introduced Poshan Tracker to support monitoring using defined indicators and a public dashboard for state-wise nutrition indicator information.
