What happened: MoT implements GREAT scheme under NTTM for technical textiles start-ups
The Ministry of Textiles is implementing the Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT) scheme under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). GREAT aims to support the technical textiles start-up ecosystem by funding young innovators, scientists, technologists, and start-up ventures to convert ideas and prototypes into commercial technologies and products.
The Ministry of Textiles states that GREAT implementation has been active since 2023 and is supported by outreach events to spread scheme information and engage stakeholders such as educational institutions, research institutions, textile research associations, and start-up incubators.
UPSC may frame GREAT under NTTM as a case study of how government R&D support tries to move technical textiles innovations from prototypes to market adoption, using incubators and monitoring mechanisms.
