What happened: MHA approval and reported scheme status for border-adjacent villages under VVP-I

The Ministry of Home Affairs approved Vibrant Villages Programme-I (VVP-I) as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme on 15 February 2023 for comprehensive development of select villages in 46 blocks abutting the northern border in 19 districts across Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and UT of Ladakh.

In the Government’s reported progress under VVP-I since launch in 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated the following project-level status (as reported by States/UT):

Sanctioned projects under VVP-I by MHA (project sanctions): 832 in Arunachal Pradesh; 98 in Himachal Pradesh; 79 in UT of Ladakh; 87 in Sikkim; and 152 in Uttarakhand. Total outlay for these MHA-sanctioned projects: ₹3,065.32 crore.Completed projects (as reported by States/UT): 316 projects completed.Convergence projects sanctioned by Central Ministries/Departments: 1,658 projects.Identified villages for comprehensive development: 662 villages total — 455 in Arunachal Pradesh; 46 in Sikkim; 51 in Uttarakhand; 75 in Himachal Pradesh; and 35 in UT of Ladakh.Funds released under VVP-I: ₹953.47 crore released to States/UT under the programme.
