What happened

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs approved a complete withdrawal of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The withdrawal is scheduled to be completed by 17 November 2026.

CISF authorities estimate the impact on staffing as follows, according to the CISF Directorate General:

Background and earlier position

CISF is a central armed police force that provides security and, in industrial units, also supports fire-related protection responsibilities through its fire wing. For large industrial establishments linked to public-sector operations, CISF deployment is typically part of maintaining uninterrupted protection for assets and critical operations.
