What happened: PMMSY implementation status, funding, and stated outcomes
The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, stated that it is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with effect from Financial Year 2020-21 for holistic development of fisheries and aquaculture in India.
Government information in the Lok Sabha connected PMMSY with three areas: (1) project approvals and central fund releases, (2) reported changes in fish production, fisheries exports, and employment, and (3) support for Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs).
Funding and project approvals under PMMSY (last six years, as stated by the Department)
The Department of Fisheries reported approvals of fisheries development projects across 34 States/Union Territories and other implementing agencies, amounting to Rs. 21,461 crore, with a reported Central share of Rs. 9,571 crore.
The Department also reported that Rs. 6,206 crore has been released to States/Union Territories and other implementing agencies under PMMSY during the last six years. The release refers to state-wise details in Annexure-I.
