Government strengthens financial assistance for critical diseases through expanded health coverage and cashless treatment

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, announced measures to strengthen financial assistance for the treatment of critical diseases by expanding scheme coverage and enhancing access to cashless treatment and financial support.
AB PM-JAY: beneficiary expansion and cashless hospital care
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) was launched in September 2018 to provide health coverage up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
Initial beneficiary base under AB PM-JAY was 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families identified using deprivation and occupational criteria based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC), 2011 in both rural and urban areas.
