What happened: “Tribal Weaves of India” to mark 12th National Handloom Day
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED organized “Tribal Weaves of India” at the RISA Flagship Store in the State Emporia Complex on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi. The event marked the 12th National Handloom Day held on 7 August 2026 and focused on tribal textiles under the RISA: Timeless Tribal brand.
Inauguration and messages on livelihoods, market linkages, and identity
The event was inaugurated by Smt. Ranjana Chopra, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs. In her address, she stressed that tribal communities need sustainable livelihood opportunities through stronger market linkages, so that tribal textiles can build a distinct presence in a niche segment and meet evolving aspirations of a wider set of customers. She also highlighted that tribal textiles represent generations of indigenous knowledge, cultural identity, and sustainable practices, and she described RISA as a platform that preserves traditions while expanding market access and improving livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans.
TRIFED Managing Director Shri M. Rajamurugan stated that RISA: Timeless Tribal is a premium brand launched by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and operated through TRIFED. He said the brand’s vision is to preserve India’s tribal weaving and craft traditions and connect them with discerning consumers in India and across the world. He added that the brand aims to position tribal textiles and handicrafts as premium offerings by combining authenticity, quality, and contemporary design, and by expanding tribal artisans’ access to national and international markets.
